Las Vegas Opens New Olympic-Size Pool at Pavilion Center

The city of Las Vegas has a new Olympic-size outdoor pool. The pool at the Pavilion Center Pool Complex, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive, opened to swimmers on Monday, June 29, KSNV reported, following a dedication ceremony on June 25. The $18.9 million project gives the complex a second Olympic-size pool, in an area the Las Vegas Review-Journal described as Summerlin, near Palo Verde High School.

What Opened

According to KSNV, the $18.9 million project includes the new pool, a pool equipment building, a classroom, restrooms and a lifeguard break room. The new outdoor pool joins the existing indoor pool at the complex, which the city described as a unique swimming complex in Las Vegas, the station reported.

The Review-Journal reported these details about the facility:

  • The pool is 50 meters long, 25 meters wide and 7 feet deep.
  • It doubles the complex's swimming capacity, opening lanes for competition, lessons and other public use.
  • The new classroom holds about 80 people and can be used for CPR training, lifeguard lessons and other gatherings.
  • The complex's first pool was built in the late 1990s as an outdoor pool and enclosed in 2010, according to Tammy Hawkins, the city's aquatics coordinator.

The Korte Company was the contractor, and the city's Public Works department managed the project, according to KSNV and FOX5.

The sources describe the opening dates slightly differently. FOX5 reported on June 11 that the ribbon cutting was set for June 25 and that the pool would open to swimmers on June 29. The Review-Journal, covering the June 25 ceremony, wrote that the pool was officially open for business that day, when members of the Sandpipers swim team made the first dive.

How It Was Paid For

FOX5 and KSNV both reported three funding sources:

  • A $1 million donation from the Southern Nevada Sandpipers Swimming Booster Club
  • A grant of nearly $9 million through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act
  • City general funds

The Review-Journal described the federal grant as about $9 million. The paper also reported that the Sandpipers, a Las Vegas-based youth swim team, have produced Olympians including Erica Sullivan, Bella Sims, Katie Grimes and Bowe Becker.

Swim Meets, Programs and Summer Hours

City officials said the pool can host local, regional, state, national and international swim meets and give local swim teams more time to practice and compete, KSNV reported. The city also plans to add programs such as exercise classes and kayaking, according to KSNV and FOX5.

The Review-Journal reported that a USA Water Polo Champions Cup was already booked for the coming months, which Hawkins described as the first tournament of its kind for Las Vegas. She also told the paper that the city had discussed a water golf activity and that planning for other new uses was ongoing. Sandpipers coach Ron Aitken, who told the paper he has worked with valley swim teams for more than three decades, said local teams shared one goal: "We all wanted more water."

The city's summer brochure for the outdoor pool lists hours from June 29 through Aug. 8, 2026:

  • Lap swim on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (short course) and 2 to 6 p.m. (long course)
  • Long-course lap swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Short-course lap swim on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Closed on Sundays

The brochure notes that the outdoor pool is all deep water, 7 feet deep, that swimmers must be strong swimmers to take part in lap swim or water programs, and that a swim test may be required. It also lists a water exercise class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting June 30, a beginning kayak class for ages 6 to 13 starting July 6, and a Water Hazard Golf event on Sunday, July 26.

What This Means for Owners and Renters

For owners: The project is a completed public facility on the west side of the city, not a planned one, and the sources we reviewed list no further construction at the site. The Review-Journal reported that the pool doubles the complex's swimming capacity.

For renters: The new pool is open to the public through city programs, with lap swim six days a week this summer, according to the city's brochure. City officials have said more programming is planned, including events that do not require competitive swimming experience.
